Ask HN: How do you restrict bandwidth when using a hotspot?
My mobile plan gives me a decent amount of hotspot bandwidth, but not a ton -- very low double digits.
In the past, I used to get by on a 5GB plan just fine, since I don't really do social media, but things like spotify pulling down new music, OS updates, misclicking and accidentally queueing up a file that would not be "big" on wifi -- all these things can quickly nuke my hotspot.
Have you found any tools or techniques to limit your bandwidth when on a hotspot?
I'm on MacOS currently, but in the process of moving over to Debian.
TripMode on Mac, can’t speak to Linux. I use it for managing data consumption on StarLink (while mobile, roam plan mounted to the top of a vehicle).
